Bernie here, Bernie there, Bernie everywhere. The F1 supremo is seemingly in the news constantly these days, whether it´s commenting on his involvement in the Gribkowsky trial in Munich or exactly where he would like the FOTA to go.
Most recently he said that the Bahrain GP will happen, because the race has been put on the calendar for 2012, so there….But there is a race he is not so sure about and that´s the Austin GP, which these days are being constructed outside of the city of Austin, Texas.
“Austin? I wouldn’t want to put my money down that that will happen. I hope it will and we are doing our best to make it happen, but I wouldn’t want to say yes,” said Ecclestone.
“What’s happened is you’ve got a guy that owns the land and started building and there’s the guy that owns the company and has got a contract with us. And they forgot to talk to each other.“
“The truth of the matter is maybe the people that have put the money down are perhaps a bit pissed off that he’s getting some publicity and they are not and are saying ‘we’ve got our money on the line, you haven’t got any money on the line.’
“They are trying to get it together. I’ve said ‘you guys have got to fall in love. Get married’.”
Last month it was announced that from 2013 there will not only be one Grand Prix in America, but two. New Jersey popped up on the radar during this summer, no one believed it then, but it was confirmed with all the grandeur it deserved. And Bernie said he has a lot more faith in the Jersey race, than the one in Austin.
“For New York (in 2013), no problem at all.”
