Kimi Raikkonen is having a blast this season, or so it seems, becaue it is not always that easy to decipher if he is actually enjoying himself. But it is no secret that the Iceman has a huge love and respect for one of the most iconic and interesting drivers ever: James Hunt.
The complete disregard for authorities and the lover of women, wine and wroom, Hunt was famous for once sleeping with 33 stewardesses from BA, over a period of two weeks. Hunt was on a alcohol, cannabis and cocaine binge with Barry Sheene, and was preparing for his most important race of his life, the final race of the 1976 season, which saw him pick up the title, with one point ahead of Niki Lauda.
Of course, our Kimi is a little more civilised. We know he likes to party and have a good time, but thankfully he abstains from dropping his overalls and peeing in front if thousands of people on the grandstand. But as a tribute to the late James Hunt, who only went on to live until his 45th year, Kimi has had a special helmet made. Perhaps it will bring him luck. Hunt never won in Monaco, Kimi won in 2005.
Enjoy the pictures.
And of course, the original helmet:
